As the Lady Trojan’s tennis season came to a conclusion after the first weekend in October, their regular season expectations were met; unfortunately, their post-season goal wasn’t quite what they hoped. The girls finished the regular season with a record of 7-2 and many improvements were seen from the girls since last season. As the ladies entered regionals, exceptional results came about with three girls teams placing: 3-doubles team Holly Bauchert and Allee Szewczyk placed 4th, 1 doubles team Mackenzie Chadderdon and Kelli Bennion also earned 4th place, and 2 singles player Emily Applegate won the North Regional Championship over Sheridan’s Katelynn Brooks.

“My emotions were going crazy into that championship match.” Applegate was only a sophomore and was already playing in the championship match. “I knew I would play my best if I stayed calm,” Applegate said.

After asking Emily how it felt to win such a vital match, she said it was her “favorite part of the season.”

The state tournament was held in Gillette on the weekend of October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Each one of the girls’ team’s conquered the first day, advancing to the second day. During the second day, the Lady Trojans had some very close calls, but no one was able to make it to the championship day.

Senior Ellie Rone of 2-doubles had a very optimistic look on the girls’ season and described her last year at state as a “bittersweet” moment. Rone was on the girls’ 3-doubles team last year as a junior, and jumping up to the 2-doubles position was “HUGE” for her.
