In just a little over a month, the Wyoming Association off Student Councils (WyASC) is having their annual convention, in Green River. Last year the Kelly Walsh Student Council had a student, Tanner Christensen, run for the office of Vice President. This year Kelly Walsh’s very own Caleigh Burgen has decided to run for the President’s office.

With his experience Christensen plans to help Burgen win her the top office of President.

“I am very excited for her and it will be a great experience for her, win or lose,” said Christensen.

Christensen believes because she is outgoing and wise she has a good chance at winning her elections.

“She needs to prepare a powerful speech, and she needs to prepare herself to give that speech. Three minutes is short for giving one first impression,” said Christensen.

Overall, Christensen believes she has the skillset to win the office.

“She just needs to utilize her skills,” said Christensen.

Christensen also said she has to have a reason to run for the office. Burgen was asked what her reason was for running for the office.

“When at the National Association of Student Councils (NASC) Convention this past summer I realized that I was a young kid. The seniors in the group inspired me to become a leader for a big group of people. They told me to let my skills shine,” said Burgen.

That is just what she plans to do, let her strong suits shine.

“When running for office you need goals” said Christensen.

Burgen has many goals that she will discuss to all of the state delegates in her first three minute speech.

“I would like to grow communication within all our councils throughout the state. I would also like to recognize all councils, big or small, for what they do for our state,” said Burgen.

Burgen claims she has experience, which will help her for the elections. “Being class president all three years of high school has given me challenges that I have dealt with well. There will be many challenges at the state level also, and I will know how to deal with them now,” said Burgen.

Others around the state know Burgen from her attendance at many WyASC and NASC conventions. “The support of my own council members, and others around the state by getting my name out there will help me tremendously,” said Burgen.
