Gatorade Anyone?

There is no doubt that the Kelly Walsh boys soccer team is a dominant program. Currently, the Trojans are ranked number one in their conference and have multiple players leading in goals and assists. The team has only allowed five goals to be scored on them and have only lost one game.

Earlier this month, it was announced that two players on the boys soccer team were nominated for Gatorade Player of the Year. Seniors Sian Realing and Colten Atkinson were among the few players that were nominated for this award. The two have been playing together for years and signed to play college soccer together at Montana State University Billings next fall.

“It’s super cool that Sian and I were both nominated this year. It feels good knowing that two people from our program are good enough to win such an award. It would be a great way to end the season no matter who gets it,” said Colten Atkinson.

The two have definitely earned the nominations, with 16 goals and 11 assists Atkinson is second in the state for most goals and assists. Realing is also dominating the field with 11 goals and 8 assists. The two pose a threat to most teams on the field and Atkinson gets man marked most games, meaning he has two players defending him at all times. Realing also leads the team with his impressive footwork and dribbling.

“It feels great to be nominated for Gatorade Player of the Year. It finally feels like all of the hard work is finally paying off,” said Realing.

Not only do the two seniors have great individual success, there is also a very good chance that the Trojans have a shot at the state title this year. The Trojans toughest matchup has been Jackson Hole. The first time they faced the Broncs the Trojans lost  3-1 in double overtime, but were able to beat them 1-0. Now going into regionals, the boys face Thunder Basin who are currently ranked number one in their region.

“We are a competitive team and I think we will be just fine at regionals. We are gonna play our hardest and I know we can be successful,” said Atkinson.

Realing and Atkinson will continue to dominate the pitch as they head into state. Realing has been a big help in defense for the team and Atkinson is their number one scorer, the two make a great team.

“Before anything, winning state is the most important. I truly believe that we can and will,” said Realing.
