Imagine sitting on the couch, wrapped in a fuzzy blanket, the lights dimmed with only the Christmas tree lighting the room. There is a cup of hot chocolate in hand, with little marshmallows floating to the surface. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is playing on the tv, and your mom is wrapping presents for the family. It is the most wonderful time of the year!

Christmas is upon us! December is the best month of the year. Lights are being hung, presents are being bought, and cookies are being baked. Christmas is a time of traditions. Families come together to decorate the tree, or go caroling.

“My favorite Christmas tradition is decorating the tree. My family does it together and we listen to Christmas music, it’s an overall good time,” said senior Haylie Hasbrouck.

Cassidy Raabe, a junior, also has a family tradition she looks forward to every year.

“My mom wraps up pajamas and a Christmas movie for us and that is what we unwrap on Christmas Eve. Then we sit and watch those movies and it makes me so happy,” said Raabe.

Another wonderful part of Christmas, is the festive music. With artists anywhere from Michael Bublé, to Mariah Carey, there is plenty of music to fit anybody’s music preferences.

Sophomore, Mayden Brown said, “I like Jingle Bell Rock because as a kid I used to dance with my dancing santa along to the song.”

However, not everyone likes the upbeat Christmas music.

Sophomore Ragin Mosteller said, “I like the slower song, Walking In a Winter Wonderland, because it reminds me of when it snows.”

Another one of the most amazing parts of the holiday season is the huge variety of Christmas cookies.

“I like frosted sugar cookies because there are so many types and they are so good,” said senior Thayne Macy.

During the Christmas season, wherever you turn,  grocery stores are selling Christmas cookies. From gingerbread, to sugar, to shortbread cookies, there are plenty of options to fit anybody’s taste buds.

Senior, Haylie Lucero said, “I love gingerbread cookies because they are a classic Christmas cookie.”

All in all, Christmas is a time of glee and joy. Families come together, laughter is shared, and gifts are exchanged. Every person’s traditions are different, yet every tradition has the same outcome, happiness. Always remember that Christmas does not come from a store, it comes from the heart.
