Kind, patient, thoughtful, and understanding are just a few words that could be used to describe one of Kelly Walsh’s most beloved staff members, Academic Facilitator Ms. Sutton. Ms. Sutton has worked in the Natrona County school district for 17 and a half years. And, sadly, but deservingly, Ms. Sutton will be retiring at the end of this year.
Ms. Sutton can usually be found in the career center, located in the 1300s wing, handing out candy to students as they make their way to class, organizing Food for Thought bags, or cracking jokes with teachers.
Ms. Sutton’s contagious joyfulness, thoughtfulness, and willingness to help anyone when she can seems to have spoken to hundreds of Kelly Walsh students as these young adults tend to gravitate to and enjoy spending their free time in between blocks in the career center.
Sutton said “I had a hard time finding a place to be comfortable when I was young, so I want my office a place of comfort for the students.”
Ms. Sutton seems to enjoy the company, but will often have to gently and politely remind students when it’s time to go back to class.
Hers kind and gentle nature can be a very refreshing part of many student’s busy days.
Junior Katey Louria said “She cares deeply about the students and works so hard to make everyone’s day brighter.” Louria speaks for many students when describing her feeling about Ms. Sutton.
Ms. Sutton’s unwavering willingness to help anyone in any situation is truly inspirational.
Senior Garrett Peterson said “After talking to Ms. Sutton about how I wanted to be a game warden after college, she immediately mentioned how she and a friend in the same profession and she didn’t hesitate to get me in contact with him.”
Ms. Sutton is consistently going above and beyond with helping students.
“I will miss working with amazing, smart, and passionate adults” and that she will “Mostly miss being with funny, brainy, strong-willed young humans.”
While she may just be that teacher that hands out suckers to some, to others, she is a source of light and warmth in a stressful world. Her kindness and amazing attitude will forever be engraved in the heart of Kelly Walsh and all the people who had the chance to know her will never forget the goodwill she showed them.
And, while the tiny office in the corner of the 1300s will be a little less lively from now on, all the school’s students and staff are grateful for the time they were lucky enough to have with Ms. Sutton.
