As high school seniors prepare to walk across the stage for graduation, many are also preparing for college sports. For athletes, this moment is everything. Playing a sport in high school is one thing. But pursuing one further in college is a whole different ball game.
Senior Ryan Deveraux has been playing baseball for ten years and is excited to continue his journey on the field. Over the years, he’s dedicated countless hours to training and tournaments, all leading up to a milestone moment. He recently signed to play at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio. Signing represents the payoff of years of hard work and dedication.
“I mean playing baseball at the college level has always been a dream of mine and now that I’m able to do that, it’s a dream come true,” said Deveraux.
Before going to Ohio, Deveraux has one final season to play with his high school team, a group of teammates he considers family.
“I’m excited to play one last season with the guys I’ve been able to call my brother’s over the years and make this season as memorable as possible,” said Deveraux.
For some athletes, the transition involves not only preparing physically but also navigating a very competitive recruitment process. Senior, Caelynne Hebert has been currently exploring which college dance team she wants to try out for. Unlike traditional sports, dance team tryouts can be incredibly intense and competitive.
“The process is very difficult because nationally ranked teams have limited spots available and a lot of people compete to have one of those spots,” said Hebert.
Hebert has been fully committed to her college dance team prep: attending dance camps to stay in good condition, participating in clinics to see what colleges are looking for, and taking extra lessons to perfect her technique, skills and tricks. Every minute of preparation brings her one step closer to achieving her goal of dancing at the collegiate level.
The move from high school to college sports is a huge transition. For these athletes, it’s not just about competition, it’s about growth, commitment, and turning their passions into future possibilities. Despite the hard work ahead, they are ready for the next step.
From the field to the stage, these seniors are proving that dreams can become reality with the right preparation, mindset and hard work. College sports won’t be easy, but for athletes like Deveraux and Hebert, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime.
