When teens begin thinking about their futures, the first thing students want to do is get out of their hometown. Students want a fun new adventure and don’t begin to think about the opportunities available within their state. LIFT Wyoming was created in 2018 by Natrona County teachers and coaches. Its mission is to engage, entice, and educate future professionals all about what Wyoming has to offer. LIFT Wyoming will take place on May 7, 2025. Featuring the return of renowned speaker Chad Varga, who has inspired people nationwide with his story of overcoming hardships.
As LIFT begins to expand, schools across Wyoming gather in Casper where they listen to inspiring speakers who share their journeys. Multiple students from Kelly Walsh High School have become very involved with LIFT. Emerson Levin has attended LIFT twice, and for her third year has become an ambassador. When it comes to getting kids to sign up, that’s when it gets challenging.
Why don’t teens want to sign up for LIFT? “Kids are often too busy, or they think it will be boring so they choose not to sign up,” said Levin.
Kids misinterpret the message of LIFT, many believe it’s a boring conference and don’t make time to understand the real mission.
“Part of our LIFT mission is to provide our students, our future city and state leaders, some guidance and insight on how to pursue their goals,” said Todd Trupp, former LIFT ambassador.
It allows students to hear professionals speak about hardships and success throughout their careers. Speakers can fill the void of wanting something new, speaking about up-and-coming career opportunities that most are unaware of that Wyoming has to offer. Speakers like Chad Varga can inspire and motivate kids in Wyoming. Sharing not only their accomplishments but also their obstacles. Read here to learn more about guest speaker Varga.
Students from Kelly Walsh have been allowed to experience LIFT for many years. Kendal Allaire, now a senior, experienced LIFT her junior year. Not only did she get to learn about the opportunities Wyoming has to offer, she could develop her leadership skills. Learning ways to lead, work, and help within her community. LIFT teaches kids that they have the power and the ability to shape their futures, and the future of our state relies on these bright-minded students.
The purpose of LIFT Wyoming is to educate kids on the many opportunities available within their community. It continues to enable the next generation of leaders by connecting students with the tools, mentors, and opportunities they need to shape their futures.
