On Friday December 6th, Epic Games reintroduced their original version of the widely popular video game Fortnite. Fortnite is considered one of the most successful and popular games on the market. Millions of people worldwide play it every single day and have since the game was released in 2017.
Upon its release it was a major hit and gained a massive following of youth all around the world. It aided in the rise of streamers like Ninja who have made millions of dollars just by simply recording themselves playing the game.
The video game is so popular among young people all around the world, the design company has grossed just over five billion dollars a year since its release according to a Statista report.
The reintroduction of the original game is influential and highly anticipated. This is because during the early years of the game many people used it as a form of not only entertainment but also connection.
Many people attribute Fortnite to helping them grow closer and bond with friends.
“The original Fortnite and the early seasons were extremely fun, and helped me to stay in touch with my friends throughout the pandemic where it was difficult to see them and have fun,” Landon Walker, a senior, said.
Many people have enjoyed the game for years claim that the original game was the best version of the game and have requested it renewal for many years.
“Some of the best memories I have are from the original game. It was the best, staying up with your friends and just having fun,” Walker said.
Many video game experts predict that because of the reintroduction of the original game, Epic Games will have one of their best years to date, based on revenue. The company expects to cross the six billion dollar mark in revenue for 2025 and projects even more growth in 2026, according to the same Statista study.
Even those who are not experts of the video game industry believe that the OG Fortnite release will bring a second wind to the game.
“I know for a fact that OG Fortnite will be a hit when it comes back out… That’s what we’ve been waiting for, for a long time. I think when it comes out it will be even bigger then it was back in 2017,” Druw Robinson said.
It is clear that Epic Games is making the right decision by bring back the original game. It will bring back people who maybe haven’t played the game for years and will introduce younger players to a new game.
