Style Trends are always evolving, and in 2024 those trends are going back to the 90’s for baggy clothing. When walking through the halls there are many different styles seen but more and more students are seen with baggy pants and tops.
These kinds of trends slowly started again with some popular name brands in 2020. Designer brands like Louis Vuttion, Balenciaga, and Prada have all hopped on these trends in making clothing items.
Cortne Bonilla, wrote an article for Harpers Bazaar that explained the rising trend of baggy clothes.
“Designers had started producing voluminous silhouettes before the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020… The shift to life spent mostly at home in loose, comfortable clothes kicked the movement into overdrive; nearly four years later, it’s an adjustment designers can’t shake. Now more than ever, runways are displaying ease in the form of billowy or slouchy silhouettes, elasticated waistbands, and softer fabrics,” Bonilla wrote.
Many teenagers have begun wearing older brands from the 90’s or newer brands that have trended toward the style of the 90’s. Many different crowds have begun wearing baggy clothes but one group that really rocks it are skaters, who typically wear it for their protection.
Kelly Walsh senior, Maddy Carlson said, “I have loved skateboarding for my whole life and ever since I really started skating I have really started to enjoy dressing more like me.”
Baggy clothes are easy to style, they can be worn with just about anything and by anyone. Back in the 90’s there were people like Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Allen Iverson, Lisa Lopes, and Avril Lavigne who popularized baggy clothing. Now in 2024 athletes and celebrities popped out in their new baggy styles. Celebrities such as Billie Eilish, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Hailey Beiber, and Jenifer Lopez have all jumped on the baggy clothes trend.
“Davin Brunson was probably my biggest inspiration when I started getting into baggy clothes. I liked his style because at the time it was still new and different,” senior Braden Shelton said.
Social media is a major way to spread different trends. Style has become a huge way to share new ideas. People like Davin Brunson have influenced so many with almost a million followers on Tik Tok and close to 100,000 on Instagram. New styles are shared everywhere, whether it be on social media or in the hallways, you can always find inspiration.
In 2024, baggy clothes are back and might even be better than ever. Today’s favorite celebrities and influencers are keeping it loose as of right now, styles always change but for now, baggy is in.
