Tonight’s match-up between the Kelly Walsh Trojans and the Campbell County Camels is set to be a great high school football showdown. The sixth ranked Trojans will host the third ranked Camels. This old rivalry game should be another classic between these two teams. Both schools are also the only teams left in class 4A with natural grass fields. Last year’s match-up between the two teams was a great game. The Camels topped the Trojans 49-33 in a high scoring, nail biter.
The Trojans are off to a 1-3 start with their win over Cheyenne South in Cheyenne. The Trojans fell to Cheyenne Central in their home opener. They also have losses to Natrona County in the Oil Bowl last week, and Rock Springs in Rock Springs to start the season off. They look to turn the season around with a big win over the Camels.
Team captain Landon Walker was asked about his thoughts on the Camels. He responded by saying “They have a really talented quarterback with a lot of experience. I trust that our corners will be on lockdown though. They also bring lots of pressure in the box so running the ball is going to be a challenge.”
Head coach for the Trojans Aaron Makelky is now in his fifth year. Walker had these comments for how Makelky is preparing the team “The coaches have been trying to create a game-like scenario for us by having us practice in the stadium with music playing and teammates yelling so we have a better idea of what Friday will be like, helping us be more comfortable when the time comes.”
The Camels are off to a great start at 3-1. They have wins against Laramie, Rock Springs, and Cheyenne South. Their only loss on the year is to number one ranked Cheyenne East in week one. They look to continue their three game win streak under the lights in Harry Geldien Stadium in Casper.
Middle Linebacker for the Camels Patrick Lynch says “I like playing on the grass field because its like ours at home. I also like going up against their offense because you never really know what to expect.”
The Camels had a change in head coach this off season, Lynch gave these words about this new coach. “He’s a really good guy and a very good leader. He’s super smart, very composed and calm. He also has very good play calls and is very knowledgeable.”
Both teams appear to poised and ready for kickoff tonight. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
