It is finally May and KW seniors are currently bustling around as they have a very busy rest of the year. Many are currently finishing their scholarship applications, final decisions on colleges, and their planning of their graduation parties.

With only a week left of school and the graduation ceremony six short days after that, all seniors are currently making phone calls to their favorite restaurant requesting their catering or venues to hold their guests as they celebrate the end of a four year journey.

Often seniors do not realize the amount of planning a graduation party takes and things can come falling apart a few short days before, but some select seniors have great advice in their explaining of the planning of their own graduation parties.

“You want to make sure you invite everybody you want there to help you celebrate and that no one is left out, that can be the most stressful part,” said senior Jaliegah Davis.

When planning a graduation party, often the seniors hand out their announcements and invites at school and can get caught up in a busy end of the year, forgetting to invite some people or not having enough hard copy invites. To prevent feelings getting hurt or just forgetting some people you don’t see as often, you can create an event on Facebook and invite any forgotten friends or family. This can also help you to plan the amount of food and drink you will need for the party.

“To make things easier on future seniors I would say to team up with a close friend and plan your parties together,” said Davis.

Luckily seniors, Emily Applegate and Abree Hill, thought ahead this year.

“I think having to order so much food and making sure you have enough can be the most stressful thing but it really helps to be doing it with my best friend and it is probably my favorite thing about the party,” said senior Emily Applegate.

Applegate and Hill have been planning on having their party together since the beginning of the year and have been working on the guest list to make sure they can count the people invited and plan the food for about half. There are often many grad parties on the same day because the time to have them is so limited, so when it comes to planning the food and drinks you can usually count on about half because the guests will be visiting other parties too.

Madison Jaquez, graduated senior of last year’s class, shares some insight on planning her graduation party and ways you can plan yours too!

“Don’t stress too much about it and enjoy it because it is the very last celebration as a high school student,” Jaquez said about celebrating graduation. Jaquez held two grad parties, one to celebrate with all her friends throughout high school and one to celebrate with her closer family and friends.

“Corn hole was a really big hit at my party and I think it was one of the most popular games at every party I attended,” Jaquez said. “My favorite part about the parties was seeing everybody and playing yard games,” Jaquez said. It is good to have fun games and activities at your graduation party to keep your guests entertained.

As the year is winding down and the seniors finish planning their graduation parties, life gets busier and it gets more real. The key to surviving is to relax and remember that this is the last celebration as Kelly Walsh High School student and that you are celebrating the end of your four year trek to adulthood. Enjoy this month, seniors, it is going to fly!
